What is News? My Miami Story

It was the first time I’d been on the air in a formal radio studio in years. And I loved it.

It was my contribution to something called My Miami Story, and at the invitation of Manny Cambo, we talked about a big question these days.

What is News?

The question itself opens up lots of other questions. We’ve all heard criticism of media, bias, etc. But solid, reliable information is deeply needed — from all points of view. This is even more true at the local level.

As an example, we chatted about some controversial matters in Key Biscayne as a way of exploring what journalism means, in a direct, local context.

SPOILER ALERT: I’m a proponent of independent, neutral point of view approach. Is purchasing more pocket parks a good idea? What should readers know? How did government do it’s job? What about banning fishing at a local bridge? And then there's the future of the Key Biscayne library.

I hope you take a listen — see you on the radio!
